I was asked by my friend/boss Laini Reeves to join her to do hair for the William Tempest show with the Label M/Toni&Guy London team at New York Fashion Week. This was my first fashion week experience and I hope not the last. Coming from a TIGI past, I had expectations of how a person new to the team may be treated but I was totally wrong. I was welcomed more warmly than I have ever been in my 9 years of hairdressing. Sacha Mascolo, aside from being Toni Mascolo’s daughter, was the youngest ever to win Newcomer of the Year for the British hairdresser awards at only 19, with countless other acclimades, it could be said that she has made Toni&Guy what it is today, as a brand and as a culture. She started the haircare line Label M and she has also partnered with her brother Christian to create Essensuals, which happens to be the name on the salon I work at here in Los Angeles. With all that being said, you might think that someone could have developed quite the ego. Well, that could not be farther from the truth. No matter what the accomplishments of anyone with a blow dryer there, everyone was kind, smiling, and eager to share, including Sacha. Tim Furssedonn was heading up the team and was as welcoming as you could have imagined. He is shown below giving us a demonstration of how the hair was to be done. It made me very happy to be part of a team like this. I can honestly say that professionally, this is the type of environment I have been looking for since the start of my career. I look forward to having many more experiences like this in the future. As I said before, we were there to support an up-and-coming designer William Tempest. He has become one of London’s most sought after designers. At 26, he has already had his creations worn by the likes of Kate Moss, Leona Lewis, Lily Allen, Alexa Chung, Emma Watson and Victoria Beckham. Toni&Guy UK has worked very closely with him since very early in his career and came to New York specifically for his show. This show was particularly interesting because it was done in a presentation format rather than runway. These are a few pictures I was able to quickly snap with my iPhone in the madness of it all. Hope you enjoy. I sure did .www.williamtempest.com/
